Getting Started

Getting Started

One of the most important steps in building or redesigning your new website is identifying your needs. This can be a daunting process, we know. You probably don't know where to start. Well, we've put together some information to help guide you through this process. The questions below can help get you started on the right track towards getting your website plans laid, or a more comprehensive guide is available by clicking here.

Although every circumstance will be different, there are a few questions that you should consider before beginning the process of creating or redesigning a website:
1. What is the purpose of your website?

What do you need your website to do for you? for your existing clients/customers? for new or potential clients/customers?
2. What is the message that you are trying to convey with your website?

If the average visitor to your website only comes away remembering one thing about your product or service, what would you want that to be? What pages do you envision your website having and what is the message or purpose of each of them?
3. Who is your audience?

Is there one particular group or age range that you expect to visit your site most often? Is there a group that you would like to visit your site more often? Do you need to present different messages to different groups of visitors?
4. What is your budget?

This is an important part of determining what you want your website to do. Start by asking yourself how much your expected return from this investment will be. This will give you an idea of what your website is worth to you. Whether the return is in the form of engaged and active customers, products or services purchased, sales leads, establishment of your company as an expert in your field, these things all have inherent value and their value may differ depending on your situation or market position and goals.
5. Where do you see youself in the development and growth of your web presence?

In other words, how involved do you plan to be? Will the site be updated regularly and, if so, by whom? Zandergraphics offers services to assist with the maintenance and/or promotion of your website. If you are interested in one of our Maintenance Plans, click here.

Will you or your employees be posting content to the site, and if so, what form will this take? News updates, blogging, discussion boards, live support chat, or just simple content changes?
6. What existing branding or business model do you have in place that the website will be a part of?

Do you have a logo? Are you satisfied with your logo? Could it use a little "cleaning up" or maybe even a total makeover? Do you need help developing a comprehensive brand image? Possibly other materials like brochures or business cards?
7. Do you have a "design concept" or vision of what you want your site to look or feel like?

Do you have specific images that you want included in your site? Do you have a vision of the types of imagery you would like included? Does your brand image include specific colors or other design elements?

These questions should at least get you started on the process of defining what you need and want from your website. More materials, including a comprehensive website planning worksheet will be available soon. In the meantime, contact us to schedule a FREE consultation or check out the links below.
